Design Story

The figure stands frontally, shoulders squared, torn violet cloth draped across a still body. Movement is not in the pose but around it — upswept golden hair, thin lightning arcs, and a bruised purple glow pressing outward from behind. Framing does the rest: dragons coil across the upper register, a kanji medallion anchors the right, and small orange spheres punctuate the border like fixed points on a map. Typography is stacked rather than scattered — a name plate above, short lines of text at the shoulder, a titled cartouche below — so the eye descends in clear steps. Gold ornament and near-black ground create the contrast; violet supplies the atmosphere.

Use & Experience

On a tumbler's vertical proportion, this layered composition reads as a continuous wraparound band, with the face sitting at natural eye height as the focal panel. Ornamental borders absorb the curve, and the violet handle and lid echo the artwork's accent tone, making the whole object feel composed rather than printed.
